Tänk Själv is the 4th release from Swedish hard rockers Magnolia, a band comprised of Ronny Eriksson (Bass Guitar & Vocals), Anders Hedström (drums), and Mark Tholin (Electric Guitar). Talking influence from such legendary bands as Cream, Mountain, Cactus, and November, this trio have sure done their homework and really delivered some sizzling, '70s styled heavy blues rock on Tänk Själv, and if you love vintage sounding guitar licks, you've come to the right place.
Tholin without a doubt is the master of the classic riff, and can also lay down some sweet solos, while Eriksson has certainly listened to his share of Jack Bruce and Tim Bogert. Throw in the nimble drum work of Hedstrom and you have a trio that really cooks here and takes you back to 1971. The only stumbling block for some might be the Swedish lyrics & vocals, and while they are well done, it will provide a stumbling block for some listeners. If that doesn't bother you, then expect some really groovy, '70's styled hard blues rockers here that will take you back to that golden era.
The folks at Transubstans Records, as I've said many times before, just seem to have a never ending stable of acts who excel at this sort of retro hard rock thing, and Magnolia are no exception.
