Cube 3 is the third release in a trilogy from veteran French extreme metal act Supuration, though this is my first exposure to the band, or so I thought. Turns out they also moonlight as S.U.P (Spherical Unit Provided), an act that has many releases, a few of which I've checked out. Supuration have a sort of death metal-meets-prog-meets-industrial thing going on here, not unpleasant by any means, though certainly not groundbreaking. Many of the riffs here are total death metal, but with the industrial grooves and lack of brutal blastbeat drumming, not to mention the mixing of growls & clean vocals, many of the songs don't quite fit into the neat death metal style. There's a mechanical, even 'coldness' to the production that makes for a somewhat sterile listen, which might be a turnoff for some and dampens some of the heavy riffs, but if you dig a little Paradise Lost, Rammstein, Pain, Hypocrisy, and Fear Factory element in your metal, you might actually find plenty of enjoyment here. "Incongruents", "Sinergy Awakes", and "Data Dance" had some really good moments, but overall the futuristic/industrial flavors gave many of these songs a kind of 'sameyness' that grew tiring after a while. If you like that sort of thing, then by all means make sure you check this one out.
