Honduran: Street Eagles

Some of the titles on this short album are pretty great. My favorite is "Hiding from the Idiots," something that most people think they're pretty good at. I also thought that "Yawnmower" was pretty great, but that could be because I really do need to get out and mow the lawn.

As for the band, Honduran is made up of three members—Jason Dinges (Guitar / Vocals); Corey Dieckman (Bass / Vocals); and Kevin Spafford (Drums). Like other great trios, Honduran sounds rich and full and big, as though there were five or more band members. The music here is relentless and fierce, a mixture of sounds stemming from hardcore, grind, and noiserock, though there's plenty of other influences wending their way through this short album. Things are at their best when Honduran perform their many breakdowns. Check out the title track as well as "Never Forget (Ben Bratt)" or "Pregnant Skeletons" for really good examples of what I mean.

My only complaint about this album is that the vocals felt a little too crowded at times, getting in the way of the killer instrumental parts. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I want clean vocals or anything like that. I just want to hear a little more of these guys attacking their instruments. There's a weird groove that comes from the really stripped-down brutal hardcore music these guys make. I want to hear more of that. Recommended for fans of no-nonsense, vengeance-ridden, hardcore.
