Bolt Thrower: Honour, Valour, Pride
British grindcore/thrash vets Bolt Thrower put their full muscle behind a fond old theme: Endless war. This is pretty much of a formula both as music, lyrics and imagery go, so don't expect some startling innovation from this disc. What you will find is a repository of meaty riffs, throttling blast beats, guttural rip-roaring vocals in the best Napalm Death style and a whole battalion of hammerlock progressions as pitiless in their exterminating trek as the best stuff Slayer ever put out. Honour, Valour, Pride plays like a sonic enumeration of the ghastly, psychedelic fantasies of hypermachismo and terminal splatter propagated by the European comics magazine Metal Hurlant (Heavy Metal here in the States); if you remember those great old Richard Corben sagas like Den, put Bolt Thrower behind them and the picture is complete. This is very well-conceived and professionally executed grind with something for weekend warriors and 'shrooming gore film fans alike. Recommended.
