Parallel Dimension: Horizons

In 2013 we have seen a number of fine progressive albums and with more big name releases on the horizon including those from Haken, Dream Theater and Karnivool, but you can't forget the quality debuts that have also appeared like My Soliloquy's The Interpreter. Parallel Dimension continues this trend with their first release an exciting and ever so catchy EP called Horizons. Symphony X, Dream Theater and Circus Maximus are some of those groups that influenced this Puerto Rican progressive metal band, started by guitarist Rafael Quintana and keyboard player Jose Ojeda in 2010.

There may just be the three songs "Hall of Mirrors", "Horizons" and "Trapped Inside my Mind!" on Horizons, but each one has it's own identity and is also quite lengthy. Parallel Dimension's contains those musical surprises that we like to hear, teeming with entrancing powerful progressive metal. As you become acquainted with the material of Parallel Dimension and given that obvious musical talent it doesn't take long to be drawn to this band. That traditional progressive metal mix appears on "Hall of Mirrors" with a gracious serving of multiple time shifts, heavy guitar riffs, impactful drums, and vibrant keyboards. "Horizons" kicks off with an endearing keyboard introduction that is soon reproduced by the other instruments setting the scene for this great track with its vibrant instrumental sections. Parallel Dimension finishes this trio of songs with "Trapped Inside my Mind!" and more of that technical metal prowess to keep you entertained.

We are sure to hear more of that which they do so well as Parallel Dimension do plan to back Horizons up with their first full-length in 2014. If this EP is an indication of what's to follow then Parallel Dimension's should be another progressive group destined for a very positive future.
