Pallas, Tyla J: Devils Supper (Electric Sitting)
Somehow, despite always being aware of The Dog's D'Amour – they were hardly ever out of Kerrang! when I was at university, this is the first time I've ever actually listened to Tyla and I'm much more impressed than I thought I would have been given my memories of his image from a quarter of a century ago.
Here he deals in a highly pleasant acoustic style which reminds these ears of Bruce Springsteen although not quite as bombastic and certainly not with the same production budget. There are some absolutely terrific songs on this admittedly slightly overlong album. "Home" in particular is brilliant and here Tyla sounds like a slightly less raspy version of Spike from the Quireboys and back in the day I'm sure this song would have been a single and maybe even have got the odd spin on the radio. He even comes over as a latter day Robert Johnson on "Religion" just to keep things interesting! Well worth investigating.
