Thashy US power metal is all the rage on the debut from Deadlands, titled Evilution. The band, which includes Steve Northam ( Bass), Dan Sablan (Drums),
Kevin Rohr (Lead Guitars), Michael J. Gardner (Lead Guitars), and Brian O'Connor (Lead Vocals), are a formidable unit, and have put together a very enjoyable slab of metal here fueled by plenty of guitar power and powerful vocals, sure to please fans of Nevermore, Vicious Rumors, Helstar, and Testament. Toss in a wealth of guest guitar players (Hank Shermann, Michael Denner, Andy LaRocque, Mike Wead, and Steve Smyth just to name a few), and you've got a supercharged metal affair.
O'Connor has a voice that sits somewhere between Russell Allen, Chuck Billy, and Ronnie James Dio, and some might remember him when he briefly fronted Vicious Rumors a while back as well as Spectre. He's the perfect foil for the wave of massive crunch-o-rama that is delivered by Gardner & Rohr on hot tracks "Pandemic Genocide", "Final Solution", "She's On Fire", and "Path We've Chosen". Seriously, if you like massive crunch to your metal, and loads of guitar solos, you've come to the right place, despite the fact that there isn't a bit of originality here. "Legions of the Damned" could easily pass for a Testament tune with it's raging thrash riffs and venomous vocals, and apparently the full album has a killer cover of the Dio classic "The Last in Line", but our digital promo did not include that bonus track. Really good stuff overall here on Evilution, and certainly a band to keep a close eye on.
