Today is the Day: Kiss the Pig

Kiss the Pig might just be the most intense and brutal metal CD you will hear all year. I know it was for me, by a long shot. Today is the Day have a reputation of delivering uncomprimising music that mixes the brutality of death metal, the screeching mania of black metal, the intricacies of math rock, and the atmospheric aura of progressive rock. It's all here on Kiss the Pig, and then some, as the follow-up to Sadness Will Prevail is a tortured journey into maniacal mayhem, littered with murderdous screaming from guitarist Steve Austin, brutal yet inventive guitar riffs, and sledgehammer rhythms. One of the most accessible tracks here is the nifty "Bee's Wax and Scar Wars", a complex instrumental with weaving guitar passages and tricky drum work.

However, after sitting through the CD's eleven songs, you'll more want to go grab a bat and beat someone's head in rather than ponder the enjoyment factor. This is lethal, destructive, hateful chaos, so proceed with caution.
