Liquid Casing: A Separate|Divide
Liquid Casing are from Huston TX and feature Alvaro Rodriguez (Guitars/Lead Vocals), Okikiolu Olufokunbi (Sax/Keys), Jim Stettner (Bass/Vocals) alongside John Pitale (Drums/Percussion.) Placing this band in any form of category is redundant to say the least other than to say that their music is excellent, thoughtful and complex. As their blurb says, "Liquid Casing has developed their own sound focused on dynamics, the ebb and flow of song structure, and vibrant rhythm." There are no hit singles for the masses on A Separate|Divide just nine songs for the discerning listener.
In order to get a feel of the band, have a listen to the opening song "A Path of Footprints Forged in the Midnight Sun" which segues seamlessly into "Alambrista". Guitars, saxophones, crashing drums, the proverbial kitchen sink; they're all present and correct yet somehow everything remains remarkably coherent. Therein lies the tale of this record, it is by no means an easy listen but give it time and you will be rewarded.
