From Finland comes Antipope...a strange name for a band who play even stranger music. 3 Eyes of Time is their latest release for Violent Journey Records, an odd mix of death metal, industrial, gothic metal, symphonic rock, thrash, and traditional heavy metal. Despite some crunchy riffs and engaging arrangements on tracks like "Last Chance", "Exposure", and "The Fear of Fear", much of 3 Eyes of Time just fails to gain any momentum, as the band can't seem to figure out of they want to be a gothic act or full on extreme band. Honestly, musically they hit on those melancholy gothic passages quite well, with big riffs and atmospheric keyboards, but bassist M J Myllykangas just does not have a good voice. He's straining throughout these songs and his delivery is just grating, bringing down what might have otherwise been a fairly decent album. My suggestion-get a full time singer, stick with the gothic tones and see what happens.
