Týr are one of those solidly dependable bands who never let anyone down. Take away the superfluous covers of Iron Maiden's "Where Eagles Dare" (although it's a pretty good cover) and Pantera's "Cemetery Gates" (somewhat inessential) and you've got a very solid album. Vocalist Heri Joensen delivers another fine performance throughout – he really is very underrated and as is their wont the band perform in both English and their native Faroese.
"Grindavísan" is sung in Faroese and is great although I have no understanding of what the song is about but I'm sure it is epic and about honour, being heroic etc and all the while the guitars of Terji Skibenćs cut a powerful swathe through the rhythms of George Kollias and bassist Gunnar Thomsen. Týr can do all forms of Euro metal from power, to folk (ish) to thrash which is why they and their albums never get boring and Valkyrja is another fine addition to their canon.
