The latest darlings of Metal Blade's Rise Above label, Sweden's Horisont, are set to unleash their third album of classic '70s styled hard rock & metal, titled Time Warriors. 2012's Second Assault scored big with fans & critics alike, and this latest slab of vintage heaviness once again sees Horisont take those familiar influences and wrap them within instantly memorable guitar fueled heavy rocking songs.
Early '70s Scorpions, Thin Lizzy, UFO, Pentagram, Grand Funk Railroad, Deep Purple...yep, you get the picture, so if you happen to drink from the same well as Horisont do, chances are you are going to love what's on display here. "Writing on the Wall", "Backstreet", and "Diamonds in Orbit" are instantly memorable, with Axel's high pitched vocals soaring over the top of crunchy, tasty '70s styled licks & riffs from Charles & Kristofer. Even when they throw in a tune with Swedish vocals, as on "Vand Tillbaka", the riffs are so mean & nasty that you don't even notice. "She Cried Wolf" is a blistering rocker that could have been a leftover from an early '70s Uriah Heep album, while "Brother" and "Eyes of the Father" feature sizzling riffs that recall Ted Nugent's glory years. The heaviest moments are saved for last on the doom-meets-prog of "All Must Come to an End, Part 1", a real epic styled tune that shows all the talent of this band wrapped up in a neat 5-minute package.
If you think Swedish hard rock and Horisont doesn't instantly come to mind, don't worry, that should quickly change once you hear this killer collection of vintage styled gems. This is great stuff folks, and a band that, in a perfect world, would be on the tip of every heavy rock fans tongue.
