Finland's Tombstoned make no qualms about their love for all things Black Sabbath & Hawkwind on their self-titled debut for Svart Records. The psychedelic doom trio, Akke (Drums), Olavi (Bass), and Jussi (Guitar & Vocals) have come up with 6 lengthy dirges here all filled with huge Sabbath styled riffs, spacey atmosphere and Hawkwind styled vocals. "Though Day" stomps really hard, while "Daze of Disintegration" offers up some sizzling psychedelic wah-wah guitar solos amidst crushing riffs and haunting vocals. The gloomy death march of "Rat Race" recalls vintage Sabbath as well as Saint Vitus, and those delicious bluesy doom riffs of "The End" are, well, sensational. "Faded" just might be the 'king of the fuzz' here, with thick, distorted guitar & bass riffs punctuated by ominous, effects laden vocals in what is just a great example of doomy space rock. The closing epic "Last Waltz" is actually the least successful song here, as it just plods along with bland blues riffs and vocals that seem to be a tad too loud in the mix. Definitely the weakest cut here (despite a killer wah-wah guitar solo at the climax), but otherwise the album is a definite slice of some trippy, psychedelic doom from a solid band and those always dependable folks at Svart Records.
