Attention all fans of titanic metal Sepultura's new album is soon to be released and damn The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart is one seriously heavy release. Not only do they have one of the coolest names in metal Sepultura have also released some of the best thrash albums you will ever have the pleasure of hearing. Though it's been a while since Roots Bloody Roots and while I tried to get into Against being such a massive fan of those previous albums I was frustrated to find that it just didn't click for me at the time. I have sampled some of Sepultura's later material since and I do have to say this new album has left me wondering about what I've been missing?
How about the title The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart guitarist Andreas Kisser was inspired by the phrase from the 1927 film Metropolis. "The phrase points to the heart as being the human factor who keeps a man, a man, not a robot. The heart beats with freedom of choice, we have to think by ourselves to create a real world, not a matrix." Drummer Eloy Casagrande joined Sepultura in 2011 making this is his first studio release with the band and he really turns it on, Eloy is one dynamic player. If any drumming enthusiasts reading this haven't seen this talented drummer perform then I suggest you take a look on YouTube. Apart from the change of drummers the remainder of Sepultura's line-up has remained unchanged since the late nineties when vocalist Derek Green joined the band, and he sounds so ferocious on this album.
As I wrote above The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart is an extremely heavy recording, Sepultura have recorded an album with such a massive sound, "Trauma Of War" is up first as Sepultura lay down a path of metal destruction with this frantic track and the vocals sound so evil. Following some intriguing introductory music we are greeted with more neck snapping metal on "The Vatican" Andreas Kisser's guitar sounds great on this track and again on "Impending Doom" where Sepultura slows proceedings down while sustaining that potent feel. The drums on the next metal track of mammoth proportions "Manipulation of Tragedy" are a true highlight the instrumental passage is so good, and when metal meets Latin percussion I just want to replay it again and again. There is plenty more of that Sepultura fury to be discovered and while "Grief" deviates partly including vocally from the metal onslaught until it unveils its heavy side. The final track "Da Lama Ao Caos" was originally performed by Brazilian non metal group Chico Science & Nação Zumbi and Sepultura's cover version certainly adds something different to this album.
Sepultura have a jam packed metal buffet in store for anyone who gives The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart a go, this album will satisfy your cravings for intense metal.
