Beastmilk: Climax
Now, that's what I'm talking about! These guys use bands such as Echo and the Bunnymen and Joy Division as a starting point for their heady mix of neopsychedelia and post-punk music. Engineering is designed to provide some echo in the mix, so the sounds is enlarged nicely as a result. There is strong rhythmic element to the music as well; this is really driving. There isn't a weak song on this entire recording. The musicians refer to their work as "apocalyptic post-punk" and I can see why. This is the natural evolution of Echo and JD; the beat is there, the darkness lyrically, and the shimmering guitars.
I think it would be easy to continue to compare this to Echo and others, but suffice to say that if that style of music is your style of music, you'll love this. What I find interesting is that these guys are Finnish, which I suppose is of no note whatsoever, but this is not the style of music I usually associate with Finland- I usually think really heavy metal. But that's me, and I am obviously wrong. I loved every track on the disc, and will be playing this one to death for the immediate future.
