Magoa: Topsy Turvydom
Showing that the US doesn't completely have a firm grip on the modern metalcore scene, French act Magoa have turned in a decent, if fairly by the numbers, release here with their latest Topsy Turvydom. Sporting some cool cover art to go along with songs that feature plenty of screams & bellows, churning guitar riffs, crushing breakdowns, and the occasional electronic elements, Topsy Turvydom isn't going to win any awards for originality, but it's solid enough and you can certainly do worse if you are a fan of this style of metal. "Wall of the Damned" is actually pretty catchy, and the band can get plenty brutal when they want to, as on "Max Bet" and "Estamos Locos". While their stab at emo-metal kind of fails with the commercial sounding "Party Time", and the rap parts of "Broken Record" I could have done without, this is decent if fairly generic metalcore for all those that still can't get enough of this sort of thing.
