Here's another Saint Vitus reissue from the folks over at Season of Mist, the 1992 release C.O.D., which featured the vocals of ex-Count Raven singer Christian "Chritus" Linderson, as he joined founding guitarist Dave Chandler, bassist Mark Adams, and the late drummer Armando Acosta. It's another killer Saint Vitus album that sees them continuing on with their patented doom/sludge attack.
Linderson has a cleaner, higher pitched voice than either Wino or Scott Reagers, hence C.O.D. has a slightly different feel to it. The meat and potatoes of a Saint Vitus album though always come down to the guitar work of Chandler, and once again he's the star of the show here. Crushing, low end doom riffs permeate "Children of Doom", "Planet of Judgement", "Plague of Man", and the searing hard rock bliss of "Imagination Man". Shades of vintage Black Sabbath pop up on the evil sounding "Fear", with Chandler's riffs just sizzling and his lead work scorching. Waves of distortion and whammy bar theatrics permeate the brontosaurus stomp that is "Bela", with Linderson delivering a delightfully demented vocal performance.
This reissue features remastered sound (the album really does sound great) and a few bonus tracks, the best being a cool cover of the Exhumed song "Hallow's Victim" and a monstrous doom number "The Chameleon". Seeing as the reissue of Die Healing contained no bonus material, it's nice that Season of Mist tossed a few on this one. So, if you didn't check this one out in 92, see what you've been missing all these years and dive into a quality release from the legend that is Saint Vitus.
