Epic French metallers Sonecast are laying the hammer down on Heroikos and forging a path to victory, this being their second album and it's a metal release with a healthy serving of powerful music with their potent and predominantly clean vocal style.
A mighty pounder called "Jakuta (cult of the bolthrower)" is up first thus allowing drummer Kenny Earl "RHINO" (ex Manowar) to get very vigorous at times as he duplicates the rapid guitar work with his kicks pedals, lead guitarist Bob "Flying" Saliba deserves a mention as he turns in a fitting solo for this one and those others elsewhere on Heroikos. Stonecast then hook effectively into the galloping metal of "The Barbaric Rhyme" and while "Triumph" may be slower it is still so very powerful. Songs like "Substance and "Kings Unborn" show a different lighter side to this group while maintaining that appeal and add to the variety of what's on offer. Stonecast's battle metal is unleashed on "Gods of Dust", and as the track progresses amongst the fury of their music you can hear the sounds of an epic clash of foes as steel meets steel, the combination is very effective. Lookout for the "Savage Princess" the subject of Stonecast's final hefty song, closing Heroikos in solid fashion.
Manowar, Iron Maiden, Iced Earth and Blind Guardian are listed as metal groups Stonecast are fond of, and you can hear that influence in their material on Heroikos. I recommend you give this band's new album a go especially if epic metal is to your liking.
