Are you on the lookout for a new metal album? Well this could be just the one, it's called Illusion X and is the work of Greek power metal group Artical. Illusion X blends power, melodic and symphonic metal with the distinctive high soaring vocals of Mark Boals (ex. Yngwie J Malmsteen, Ring Of Fire and Royal Hunt) someone who has his name planted on multiple top notch metal recordings.
Illusion X-is the third release by Artical and you soon discover that Boals is not the only talented member in this group, as there is a skilful line-up that is founder, drummer and guitarist Mike Dimareli , keyboardist Chris Dimareli and Leo Petropoulos on bass.
Opening in a slow and powerful symphonic manner with "Look in The Mirror" Artical start impressively, ramping up the speed Artical go into express mode for "Chasing My Life". The catchiest song on Illusion X has to be the melodic rocker "Follow The Light" and this one reveals its musical charms promptly, on the downside though it doesn't take long to memorise the lyrics due to the lack of and hence after multiple listens this track does start to get a touch too repetitive. Artical sure got it right with the extra heaviness of "Wings Of Darkness" which is very compelling and complemented by Boals where he incorporates a darker vocal style, the band is flowing once again at a faster pace for "Run Like The Wind" as an enthusiastic Artical really turn it on with their instruments. Leo Petropoulos's bass has a strong input motivating the imposing title track "Illusion X", and Chris Dimareli's keyboards are most appropriate once more as is the guitar of Mike Dimareli.
Here we are approaching the tail end of 2013 and the impressive releases like Illusion X by Article keep on appearing.
