Pyha Kuolema: Kevattuulisormi

This will be a short review. The main reason is that this is a record of nearly all acoustic music, with just acoustic guitar and voice. With lyrics in Finnish, which I do not understand, so I cannot speak to the lyrics, which according to the press release tell of "a still landscape, of building a home into a world that is not his own." That's actually a fair description of the music: strummed and chorded guitar with deep and melancholy voice. The songs are slow moving and deeply felt. In a few songs, under the guitar are placed gentle sound effects, such as the sound of waves on "Mustat virrat." And on "Valkoinen nainen," the electric guitar makes an appearance, playing long and languid lines alongside the acoustic guitar. This is also a more upbeat song. Mikko Poyhonen has created a labor of love with this disc, and for those who love folk music, ethnic music or neo-folk, this will be most enjoyable.
