What began as a solo-project of vocalist Edu Falaschi in 2006 would later become his main focus after leaving one of Brazil's most prominent and enduring metal acts Angra in 2012. The group that Edu then turned his attention to is of course Almah who with three albums Almah, Fragile Equality and Motion to their name now return with the fourth Unfold.
Unfold is actually a concept album "dedicated to such actions and qualities as overcoming, firmness, persistence and capability to transform bad things into something good. The idea expressed by such symbol as the Lotus flower refers to Oriental philosophy. It's usually born in a swampy river but able to break through dark and dirty surface, to grow up beautiful and full of life and get to fresh air and sunlight."
Performing vibrant and technical power metal Almah have a massively impressive new release with Unfold that fans will be sure to relish. Overflowing with quality metal songs such as "Believer" which I can't stop listening to, Almah's latest album is one of 2013's finest. The musicianship on Unfold is something else, this is one line-up that needs to be heard be it their shining technical execution on songs like the lively "In My Sleep" and "Cannibals In Suits" or the hefty infectious riffs of "The Hostage" or "You Gotta Stand". Edu's vocals are as varied and compelling as ever, so with all this talent on hand it's now wonder that Almah's songs are just so appealing. "Treasure Of The Gods" is Unfold's spellbinding mega metal track at nine minute plus with more of that jaw dropping drumming and sublime guitar work.
Unfold is simply a fantastic Almah release and a no brainer for any fan of uplifting metal.
