Might Could: Relics from the Wasteland

Might Could began as a duo between Andy Tillotson and Tim McCaskey, who played their acoustic guitars in tandem during graduate school. They created some personal CDs for their own enjoyment, but didn't get serious about creating commercial music until they met up with Aaron Geller, in 2003. Luis Nasser would join later to form the core of the band. They are equally based out of Chicago, Illinois and Washington DC in the USA. The band is made up of three guitarists and a bassist and the music they deliver is instrumental acoustic and electric guitar driven music full of emotion.

Might Could has often been compared to the California Guitar Trio. They have released two critically acclaimed albums: All Intertwined, in 2005, and Wood Not, released in 2007.

Relics from the Wasteland is full of acoustic and electric guitar instrumental pieces without vocals. Vocals and lyrics would only have disturbed the rhythm of the songs.

The best tracks for me are "That's a Mal�rt", "Relapse", (with its similarity in melody to Jethro Tull's "Rocks on the Road"), "Trials of Cromulence", "The Camels Make the Rules", (especially after reading the story behind the track's name), "Crab Recess", (again for the music and the story behind the track's name), "Sarabande", and "For Ellie". However, the highlight of the album is Might Could's cover of Jethro Tull's "Songs from the Woods".

Overall, the perfect way to spend a winter night by the fire listening to warmly played guitar. Enjoy.
