Alastor: Destiny (remastered)

Alastor, the Polish Thrash Metal Band, have had their previously unreleased 2nd album, Destiny, finally see the light of day. Metal Mind Productions have once again unearthed an obscure Thrash band to the masses with their always fantastic Digipak Remastered edition CD. This Alastor record was recorded back in 1990 and was to be the follow up to their debut, Syndroms of the Cities, but it was never released. I would guess most likely due to this record sounding so out of date even at the time it was made, but it does come with a bonus track!

Unfortunately Destiny is more of the same sub-par Thrash Metal that helped to bring down a great genre. Caterwauling vocals abound mixed with hyper speed riffing with time signature changes that don't play together at all. If you can think of a Thrash band trying to write complicated riffs but having trouble getting them to flow together and that would get you close to what Alastor has going on here. And there were a LOT of bands guilty of doing this back then, which again helped to ruin the scene itself. I found this release to be more of the same lackluster material as their debut, albeit a tad more musical. Production is also slightly better on this remastered edition; however it can not save this effort.

Alastor never became a household name in the Thrash Metal world and this previously unreleased 2nd album serves as a good reason why. It very simply doesn't contain very good material or good musicianship, either. However, Metal Mind Productions does offer a great looking product, just too bad that the music within wasn't as good as the Digipak that contains it.
