Secretpath: Wanderer and the Choice

This is a 5 song demo from Italian Black/Death Metal band, Secretpath. This effort falls in between Death Metal or your average Black Metal fare, with vocals in the vein to those of Emperor or some other Norwegian band where you can't understand what they are saying. They might as well be singing (cough, cough) in Italian because you can not distinguish a single word.

The music is progressive and even atmospheric at times with a bunch of time changes and mood swings, but I found this EP to be boring. As a matter of fact the song, "In Praecipiti Esse", made me feel as though I was listening to Dracula cast some sort of incantation. The vocals throughout Wanderer and the Choice range from Dracula to Cookie Monster to an Operatic Dracula, but I guess that's what Black Metal is supposed to have. I found the actual musicianship to be OK at best and is filled with, of course, a ton of blast beats to help spur their type of brutal Metal.

Some will find this type of Death/Black Metal interesting or maybe even innovative, however I found it awful and would not find myself listening to this again. If you've ever seen the movie, "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and the scenes of the Dracula/Van Helsing play, then you can imagine what the vocal stylings of Secretpath have in store for you. Sorry, but I'll pass.
