Stoner metal doesn't get much more, well, 'stonerific' than We Are Here, the latest from Brooklyn, NY trio Blackout. One look at their bizarre promo pic and you see just how eclectic this trio is; the bikini clad Taryn Waldman on drums, the one legged guitarist/vocalist Christian Gordy, and tall, long haired & bearded bassist Justin Sherrell, making up the trio. Considering that Waldman is a former Hooters waitress turned film editor, Gordy a bartender, artist, and BBQ enthusiast, and Sherrell actually a drummer, it's a shock that these three were able to make anything happen here, but create pummeling stoner grooves they did. Spark up whatever you have on hand, and prepare to get pulverized by psychedelic, doom laden tunes like "Amnesia", "Indian", and the monstrous "Seven". No shortage of Black Sabbath/Saint Vitus styled riffing from Gordy, and Sherrell's booming bass lines are right there every step of the way, with Waldman providing some thunderous drum fills. We Are Here ain't perfect, it isn't unique or groundbreaking, but it's a hell of a lot of fun if you like crushing, psychedelic heaviness. Stoner fans smoke up and inhale deeply.
