The folks at Svart Records now bring us Domovoyd, a Finnish band that labels themselves 'psychedelic doom'. Their new CD is titled Oh Sensibility, and it's packed with plenty of sludge & space rock to please any fan of Electric Wizard and Hawkwind. Though featuring just 6 tracks, the album plays like one long piece, as each number segues into the next, with the droning guitar textures, effects laden vocals, and crashing drum patterns just undulating and weaving in and out of the mix. "By Taking Breath" has hints of early Monster Magnet mixed with Space Ritual era Hawkwind, while "Effluvial Condenser" features no shortage of guitar noise, as Niko Lehdontie & Oskar Tunderberg use wah-wah and multiple effects to generate a wall of chaos. Vocally, this album is kind of a mess, as the vocal passages are generally buried behind the wall of sludge and you really can't make out what is being sung, and for some listeners the repetitive nature of the arrangements will no doubt get a bit tiresome. Plus, though the band label themselves as a doom act, there's very little 'doom' in the traditional sense here ("Argenteum Astrum" coming the closest), but, the music does have a certain heaviness to it, yet it's coming more from a space rock/psychedelic/sludge aspect. If you are in the mood for some noisy, monolithic explorations into deep, dark, sludge ridden space, then Oh Sensibility is probably worth checking out.
