Amanita Kingdom is the debut EP for Transubstans Records from Swedish psychedelic/stoner/space rock band Moon Coven (love the name!), and it signals the start of what should be a very good career for this five-piece act. Three guitars (!), bass, drums, and vocals...that's what it's all about here. Riffs, riffs, and tons of groove. "Ruler of Dust" kicks things off with plenty of repeating guitar patterns and strong hippie vocal passages, while the two part title track just invites you to crank up the lava lamp and get your air guitar going alongside the massive guitar & bass riffs. The guitars are big, fat, and beefy (I'm talking to all the Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Pentagram, and Down fans right now), and though there aren't a ton of guitar solos to be found, when they do pop up look for wah-wah drenched eruptions that will peel the paint off your wall. "East" lumbers, boils, and bubbles along with some seriously heavy grooves, while "We Were Conquerors" takes a more haunting, rootsy, psychedelic approach, with shimmering guitar chords and layers of lush vocals.
Though most of the tracks here on Amanita Kingdom are fairly lengthy, this EP is over almost all too quickly and you are left wanting more. This is a band to keep a close eye on over the months and years ahead, and this EP will be released on CD, black & clear vinyl to the world on January 15, 2014.
