Too bad this is only a two-track demo. I know, SoT doesn't always review demos. Hell, if we did, we'd never have time to review official releases. But Finland's Grendel, formed back in 1999, is worthy of mention. Grendel plays dark and splendid traditional metal ("The Times of Agony") and modern metal ("Something to Remind"). And plays it quite well, I might add — just, unfortunately, not in the same song. The two tracks here sound as if two different bands performed them. By now, after three other demos (one under the band name Crimson Sky) and two self-financed EPs, Grendel should have moved beyond its search for a distinct sound. We at the Sea, however, will continue to keep an ear out for these six guys, as Grendel's full-length debut — if it's ever released — could be well worth noting. Keep us posted, guys.
