Danish thrash veterans Artillery have long been one of the most dependable metal acts on the planet, and they now find themselves on Metal Blade here in the US for their latest CD Legions. Once again, the band have brought on board a new singer in the form of Michael Bastholm Dahl, who joins Michael Stutzer (Guitars), Morten Stutzer (Guitars),
Peter Thorslund (Bass), and Josua Madsen (Drums) to solidify this latest incarnation. He fits right in with his high pitched wailing on neck snapping thrash rippers like "God Feather", "Wardrum Heartbeat", and the lethal title track, each one filled with relentless speed riffing and pummeling drum work. "Global Flatline" is more of a mid-paced metal thumper with emotional vocals and some killer melodies, and "Dies Irae" delivers super crunchy thashy power metal in the vein of Primal Fear. For those with more progressive leanings, check out the textured "Enslaved To The Nether", complete with some gorgeous acoustic & jazz guitar passages to go along with the moody, heavy riffs and Dahl's soaring vocals. But to be honest, most come to an Artillery album expecting kick ass, headbanging thrash, and they do not disappoint thanks to songs like "Doctor Evil" and "Ethos of Wrath", packed to the brim with endless riffs & solos courtesy of the Stutzer's.
Legions is quite simply another quality thrash metal gem from Artillery. Get out your air guitars and prepare to bang thy head.
