Brutal hardcore mixes with groove laden doom & stoner on the latest CD from Australian band I Exist. From Darkness, which is out on Prosthetic Records here in North America, is a pretty pummeling affair, chock full of massive guitar riffs, pulverizing rhythms, and violent vocals. The band lists Eyehategod and Black Sabbath as influences, and you can certainly hear bits of each band seeping into the arrangements of such heavy hitting tracks as "Heal Me in Smoke" and "Sorrow On Hill 105", along with perhaps a little Pantera, Crowbar, and Down. "Bloodlust" muscles along with hardcore styled brutal aggression, while the epic title track packs all of their sludge, doom, stoner, hardcore, and punk elements into one long, punishing journey, their triple guitar attack really working overtime and delivering a variety of slow dirges, speedy riffs, and blazing lead lines.
From Darkness might not set the world on fire, but it's a pretty enjoyable slice of heavy, heavy sounds from a band that has plenty to offer. Check it out.
