Called to Rise, the debut from Bay Area death metal act Oblivion, was originally released in January of 2013 but sold out so fast that Unique Leader has quickly reissued the CD with a few bonus instrumental & orchestral tracks thrown in for good measure. The band is comprised of bassist Ben Orum (ex-All Shall Perish), lead singer Dr. Nick Vasallo , guitarists Victor Dods & Ted O'Neill , and drummer Luis Martinez, together they pack quite a punch and deliver punishing, technical death metal. Plenty of shredding guitar solos, massive riffing, jackhammer drum blasting, and venomous growls & screams to be found throughout Called to Rise, especially on brutal tracks "Reigns in Fire", "Black Veils of Justice", and the pulverizing "Reclamation". And, these guys can get progressive too, as on the adventurous "Multiverse", a brutal & technical slice of classic death metal that never stops surprising.
This is without a doubt a lethal extreme metal act that surely has a bright future ahead of them. Check Called to Rise out if you haven't already, and get ready for what can only be exciting stuff coming from them in the not too distant future.
