2013 was a massive year for metal releases and one that I didn't get around to posting a review of was Gamma Ray's very good Master Of Confusion. This ten track EP features two new songs along with two great covers and live recordings of six more numbers.
The ultra heavy "Empire Of The Undead" is the first of those two new songs racing along in that vibrant bombastic Gamma Ray fashion, next the title track "Master Of Confusion" is a traditional Gamma Ray styled metallic melodic rocker. "Empire Of The Undead" is also the title of Gamma Ray's latest and 11th full length studio album following the excellent To The Metal and is due for release in March this year.
The two cover songs are simply fantastic starting with the very catchy Holocaust heavy rocker "Death Or Glory" as Gamma Ray deliver with this captivating headbanger. It gets even better on "Lost Angels" Gamma Ray's faithful rendition of the Sweet track and they totally nailed this one, a great choice given Gamma Ray's musical style and they really did this song justice the vocal delivery and music are just so good. Gamma Ray are no strangers to live recordings so as you would expect the live tracks to be spot on as they are. Vocalist Michael Kiske appears on "Time To Break Free"and the longest track on this release "Insurrection" closes the EP in great metal fashion.
There you have it Master Of Confusion is a fine power metal EP and that artwork just tops it off so bring on the new album.
