New wave of thrash darlings Warbringer are back with their 4th release for Century Media, titled IV-Empires Collapse. Now, let me just state that these guys are a good band; if you like contemporary thrash with plenty of references to the greats like Metallica, Megadeth, Death Angel, and the like, then Warbringer push all the right buttons and are sure to be of interest to you. Neck snapping tracks like "One Dimension", "Horizon", and the lethal "Leviathan" all pack plenty of crushing thrash metal might, complete with tight guitar riffs, flashy leads, rock solid rhythms, and effective gruff vocals. The problem is that Warbringer still have yet to really hit on their own identity. There's precious little here that we haven't heard before by countless other bands, but, to give these guys credit, IV-Empires Collapse is extremely well played, heavy yet melodic, and contains some memorable tunes that are actually quite enjoyable. A modern day thrash classic this probably isn't, but that doesn't mean you can't have a lot of thrashing fun with this album. Very solid, yes indeed.
