Hard to believe that Gökböri — a New York-based band with Turkish lyrics — consists of only two guys, vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Emre Balik and drummer Jesse Haff. With a band history that includes Pagan, Daylight Dies and Sun Descends, the pair blends black/thrash-metal riffs with Turkish folk to make a brash and boisterous sound that should appeal more to extreme-metal fans than progressive-folk listeners. Since the 2013 release of Balbal, Gökböri has added bassist Koray Önder to its lineup. Hopefully, album number two will be a little less one-dimensional.
