Greek act Allochiria released their initial self-titled EP in 2010, and they are back four years later with their debut full-length Omonoia. This is pretty well done, atmospheric post rock/sludge with some doom & psychedelic elements. The 8-minute opener "Today Will Die Tomorrow" packs a punch, and is quite effective in building up some drama as the song draws to a conclusion, thanks to some quite effective guitar riffs and textures. I found some of the audio snippets from news programs and commercials that are thrown in to be somewhat distracting, but to be honest so many bands do this nowadays I guess you almost get immune to it. "Archetypal Attraction to Circular Things" is a lengthy, boiling miasma of alluring sounds, and it's not until "We Crave What We Lack" that the band really kicks it into high gear, a crushing mix of oppressive sludge and death metal that really lets the band deliver some brutal sounds. The oddly titled "K." slows things down to a pulverizing, doom laden crawl, and the epic closer "Humanity is False" is a creepy journey into the farthest reaches of your mind, with tranquil passages mixed in with mounds of crushing sludge. The press info mentions acts like Neurosis and Pelican as possible influences on Allochiria, and you can hear that throughout the album. Omonoia might not be as groundbreaking as some of the best of those two acts, but there's some truly chilling material here that I can easily recommend this one.
