Death's Crown is Victory is the first album from England's Solstice in nearly 13 years, an extended EP of sorts highlighting the bands classic heavy metal sound. This is galloping, fist thrusting, head pounding, air guitar prompting stuff, clearly influenced by the greats of the NWOBHM movement. Opening instrumental "Fortress England" is a fun, driving uptempo piece, while the epic "I am the Hunter" sees high pitched vocals soaring over twin guitar leads, massive riffs, and bombastic rhythms. The title track is another near 10-minute song, reminding me a bit of Manilla Road in spots with a touch of Manowar, as the band gets 'into their glory ride' with some truly anthemic, epic heavy metal. Closer "Aequinoctium II " touches on the spirt of some of the recent Grand Magus output for a solid end to the album, as fantastic riffs take you off into the sunset.
Though it's been a long hiatus since their last release, Solstice show they are back and better than ever here with this mini LP. Ail hail classic metal!
