Drudkh: Eastern Frontier in Flames

Mysterious Ukrainian black metal act Drudkh are back with their latest release, titled Eastern Frontier in Flames, which is actually a collection of songs that were included on two earlier EPs and a split-12" with Winterfylleth back in 2007 & 2010. Now out of print, the rare songs from those mini releases can now be enjoyed here once again. You get the two original tunes "Fallen Into Oblivion", a very textured instrumental, and the vocal piece "Ashes", each one showing Drudkh's penchant for Nordic black metal but mixing in their own love of classic heavy metal. What follows are various obscure covers, the highlights being the two Sacrilegium covers, especially the lengthy "Tam Gdzie Gasnie Dzien", which is just chock full of moods, textures, and epic arrangements. Overall Eastern Frontier in Flames is a fun batch of rarities, though those new to the wonders of Drudkh might want to start elsewhere with any of their original full-length releases.
