Here's another split EP, this time featuring Ukrainian black metal act and their buddies Winterfylleth. Thousands of Moons Ago/The Gates actually isn't much of a split though, with the majority of the material coming from Drudkh in the form of 3 covers, which are available elsewhere in the simultaneous rarities release Eastern Frontier in Flames as well as some out of print EPs. "Ten, Ktery Se Vyhyba Svetlu" is a raging cover of a little know song by Unclean, showing how well Drudkh can crank out underground black metal, and both "…W Krainie Drzew" and especially the Sacrilegium track "Recidivus" are very well done. Winterfylleth show up with their violent take on Hate Forest's "The Gates", a nine minute track of pure black metal brutality.
Not sure how essential this release will be as most of this material is available on other releases, but as splits go this will give you a good idea of what both bands are all about, here covering other songs but still allowing their personalities and styles come through.
