A New Beginning is the third release by the Swiss progressive metal group Appearance Of Nothing, and it's one new album with plenty going for it. The musicianship is the main drawcard with Appearance Of Nothing, they aren't performing the most technical music you will hear that's not what this album about though it is also far from straightforward metal. While the vocals are also effective with a large clean component and extra aggressive touches.
Pagans Mind are one group that I like a lot and when I heard "Chains Of History" off A New Beginning they were the first to come to mind. That's not saying that Appearance Of Nothing sound like another Pagans Mind, just that potent kind of ultra catchy guitar style which PM also incorporate so well which had me hooked on this song. You may look at the track list and be thinking why only the seven songs? Well this isn't a short album A New Beginning has four tracks clocking in at over seven minute's the title track alone is fourteen plus. Speaking of which the substantial "A New Beginning" is sure to impress as Appearance Of Nothing slowly build the momentum to this engrossing progressive metal tune. Impressing again on the next tracks "Forsaken" and the very good "Echoes" I really like the orchestral additions on this song, and it's these extra touches that you find along the way that bring an added charm to this release.
Appearance Of Nothing's rather impressive melodic progressive metal on A New Beginning is waiting for you to give it a try.
