Kill Matilda: #Punk#Zombie#RocknRoll
Like the zombies in their songs, the members of Kill Matilda just keep coming. After a two year period of challenges—including a tumor and an Ectopic pregnancy—this band is stepping to the stage and demanding to be heard. This EP, mostly re-releases from the 2011 full-length I Want Revenge, serves as a reminder that this is a strong act with a bright future. The acoustic version of "Geisha with a Switchblade" is a haunting and unforgettable exploration of revenge. It's something right out of a Tarantino film, scary, violent, and darkly comical.
The rest of the songs are an upbeat and energetic take on punk rock. This band warrants the comparisons to bands like Hole, but they don't have any of the Courtney Love baggage. Instead, this is a fresh and exciting burst of musical energy that looks forward to the future rather than to late-90s nonsense. From the start, I loved the power of Dusty Exner's voice. She can scream with the best of them, but—lucky for us—can also carry a tune.
