Starvation is the debut album from Seattle thrash/traditional metal act Blood of Kings, who are comprised of guitarist/vocalist Nick Paul, bassist/vocalist Pete Yore, and drummer Eric Jelsing. Originally released in mid 2013 on Graveyard Productions out of Italy, the album is now seeing worldwide distribution through Tridroid Records. If you love the early/mid '80s thrash/speed metal/NWOBHM scene and acts such as Motorhead, Voivod, Venom, Tank, Excite, Kreator, Destruction, and Angel Witch, then you've come to the right place as Starvation is sure to scratch that itch for vintage metal sounds. Plenty of frantic rhythms driven by furious double bass drum kicks underneath loads of riff-o-rama on raging tracks like "Flat Line", "Without Fear", "Symbols of Man" and the lethal title track. The production overall is kind of raw, which is ok and suits the almost underground feel of the album, and while the high pitched, often times nasal-ish vocals are without a doubt a weak point of these songs, there are just so many cool riffs flowing through each and every song that you just tend to overlook the below average vocals. Perhaps a full-time lead vocalist might be the way to go here, as these guys obviously know how to create some furious metal songs that push all the right buttons. Starvation isn't recreating the wheel by any means, but it's a heavy hitting, fun listen nonetheless.
