Ready for some chest pumpin' melodic hard rock 'n' roll? Drive is the latest from Mother Road, the band put together by Austin, TX singer Keith Slack (MSG/Steelhouse Lane) and German guitarist Chris Lyne (Soul Doctor). Rounding out Mother Road are keyboard player Alessandro DelVecchio, drummer Jacky Tsoukas, and bassist Frank Binke. These guys obviously have studied their Bad Company, Deep Purple, Kings X, The Black Crowes, Free, ZZ Top, and Led Zeppelin albums well, as Drive tips its hat to many of the legendary bands of the last 40+ years. Fans of the big Hammond organ/guitar rock of Deep Purple will love "Dangerous Highway" & "These Shoes", and gritty blues rock numbers "Dirty Little Secret", "Drive Me Crazy", and "Poor Boy (Long Way Out)" sizzle thanks to Lyne's compelling licks (think John Sykes by way of Paul Kossoff, Gary Rossington, Gary Moore, and Jimmy Page) and Slack's soaring pipes that recall Paul Rodgers as well as Dug Pinnick. For pure catchy muscular blues rock with hooks and scorching lead guitar, you can't go wrong with "Still Rainin' ", while the acoustic tinged roots rocker "On My Way" is a must for any fans of The Black Crowes as well as Mr. Big.
With melodies aplenty, powerful vocals, and stellar musicianship, it's pretty easy to recommend Drive, and I can safely say that there's a built in audience ready and waiting for stuff like this.
