Armageddon Rev. 6:16: Sundown on Humanity

According to the good people at Pitch Black Records Armageddon Rev. 6:16 is, "the longest living and most respected Cypriot metal band." I'm not fully sure how much competition there is for that accolade but Pitch Black have a very fine roster and released Emerald Sun's fantastic Regeneration album so I'm going to take their word for it. Sundown on Humanity is actually the band's first full length album depite the group having been around since roughly 1985 and sees original members Jimmy Mavrommatis on vocals, Kikis A. Apostolou on lead guitar and Elias A. Andreou on rhythm guitars joined by accomplished musicians Nikolas Papaeftychiou on bass and Kerry Elgar on drums (although he has recently been replaced recently by Evangelos Varnava). Guest appearances include Bob Katsionis (Firewind) on keyboards and guitar, Nicholas Leptos (Arrayan Path, Warlord), Tasos Karonias (R.U.S.T.) and Andreas Paraschos (Blynd) on vocals. Bob Katsionis also mixed and mastered the album at his own Sound Symmetry Studio in Athens, Greece. Katsionis has been a busy boy recently as Outloud also have an album out about now as well.

At just over 58 minutes the album isn't too long unlike so many these days, it certainly relies upon well-used clichés lyrically (give "Heavy Metal" a listen) but has enough conviction to overcome these shortcomings especially in the rather catchy "United". At times it may well be a little bland generically but if power metal is the scene you are into you may wish to check this one out.
