Future Fiction: Looking For A Broken Dream

Future Fiction are a bunch of young chaps from the south of England comprising of main man Kilmer who writes the songs and plays guitars, Shemeck Fraczek on bass and drummer Josh Fraser. They say that their style of music is, " 'Future-Retro Progressive Rock'.

We don't have endless widdly solos but we do have a progressive approach when it comes to crafting songs." Their excellent debut album is available at their Bandcamp page and is more than worth a listen both musically and lyrically. Here's a taster from "Blood,Sweat & Tears":

I've been searching for a chance in this wilderness
I'm looking for a broken dream
I saw a man in the cloud with the promise that
I could be what I wanted to be
I saw a vision in the dirt of a better world
But I can't find the operator
I keep knocking on doors and pulling short straws
Take me to the promised land

Blood and sweat and tears they're real!

In truth there isn't a dud song on this album with the anthemic "Between The Lines Part 2" being the most commercial (perhaps there should be inverted commas around that particular word) featuring a quite epic scream to finish things off. Strangely at times I was reminded of both Sparks and Talking Heads but with a much more metallic edge and the aforementioned "Blood, Sweat & Tears" really exemplifies this. This is one of the more assured independently produced debuts I have heard in the last few years – off you go, go and get it.
