From Perth, Australia comes Jupiter Zeus, their latest album On Earth out now on Magnetic Eye Records. If you remember the days when the bleak sounds of Alice in Chains emerged from the Seattle underground, you'll certainly appreciate what these guys have delivered here with On Earth. Guitarist/vocalist Simon Staltari definitely has that Layne Staley thing going on, and the rest of the band, drummer Aidrian Vudrug, guitarist Michael Lawson, and bassist Jeremy Graham, also do their best to create dark, haunting, and generally heavy song structures that more than recall the Seattle legends. Tunes like "Over", the chilling "I Am", the crunchy "Psychotic Seeds", and the groove laden, bruising "Co-Creators" pack plenty of punch and haunting melodies, despite the fact that at many times during this CD you'll feel sort of like you've heard this all before. Solid stuff for sure, if not a tad too familiar.
