3 Years Hollow: The Cracks
Modern and moody alternative hard rockers 3 Years Hollow have delivered a riff laden debut album with plenty of crunch and bite across the twelve tracks that have been produced by Clint Lowery of Sevendust and Call Me No One. Crisp and clear vocals are at the forefront of driving opener 'The Devil's Slave' and having hit upon a tried and tested formula the quartet largely stick to it which is perhaps the one real criticism that can be levelled at The Cracks. It would have been nice to have heard them mix up the tempos a bit more as for the most part this is mid-tempo hook laden and commercially astute twenty first century rock.
Lowery's influence inevitably lends itself to comparisons with Sevendust (and he is featured on the stand out 'For Life') and there are also notable nods in the direction of Nickleback ('Chemical Ride'), Alter Bridge ('Fallen') and Theory Of A Deadman ('Taken By All'). If the aforementioned will have you running for the hills then 3 Years Hollow will clearly not be to your liking but it is what it is and whilst not breaking any new ground there is a large enough audience out there for 3 Years Hollow to build their own following.
