Jameson Raid: 9 Reasons (EP)
For the handful of global success stories that came out of the NWOBHM there were dozens that slipped through the cracks. This was a time when record labels would sign bands and promise them the world but never deliver…and for a shining example of that you need look no further than Diamond Head. Birmingham and the surrounding area was littered with bands that were seeking to emulate the likes of Maiden, Priest and Saxon and one such band was cult heroes Jameson Raid. The Raid are mainly remembered for gold plated classic 'Seven Days of Splendour' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zqAJM0IjRg) and an appearance on EMI's compilation album Metal For Muthas II.
Numerous line-up changes and the ensuing instability contributed to their downfall until vocalist Terry Dark and bassist Pete Green put the band back together for the twenty first century. They subsequently appeared at Hard Rock Hell in December 2013 and this three track EP of new material was partially funded via a Pledge campaign. The anti-war theme of the title track maintains The Raid tradition of being a band with a message set against a backdrop of grinding riffs and Dark's wailing vocal. 'I'm Not Crazy' offers up a hypnotic mid-tempo chugger and 'I'm Not Waiting For You' is an urgent burst of solid hard rock with blazing guitars and a killer hook.
9 Reasons proves Jameson Raid are not simply on some kind of nostalgia trip – full album next please chaps!
