Finnish thrash metal veterans Witheria return with their fourth album Devastating Return on Violent Journey Records. Nothing really new happening here, but you have to give these guys plenty of credit for consistently coming up with catchy, neck snapping thrash that may not change the world, but still provides many moments of metal enjoyment. Led by the gravelly vocals of the hilariously named Tuberculosis, Witheria tear through barn burners like "Mind Compressor", "Burnt to Ashes", "Raft of Desolation", and "Some Wounds Will Not Heal", each one packed with plenty of speedy, crunchy riffing, blazing solos, and tight rhythms. Sure, "Thrown Down the Well" and "Toxic And Aggressive Growth" have a fairly generic quality to them, and I'd love to see Mr. Tuberculosis add some variety to his delivery, but much of this album is a thrashy good time, and you have to appreciate them adding some proggy elements to the lengthy closer "Back On Earth". Solid stuff all around.
