Hark: Crystalline

Welsh band Hark are very heavy, raucous and a tad too grungy for my tastes. Doom is also not my natural habitat but there is much to admire on Crystalline especially if you are a fan of that particular genre. Mastodon or Clutch are the obvious touchstones here especially on the heavier-than-most-natural-things "Black Hole South West" or the absolutely thunderous "Breathe and Run". Special credit must go to Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou who gives the band's cacophony of sound ample room to breathe. Definitely not one for the casual fan but I imagine the already initiated will be totally enraptured.
