Majors, Ray: The 7% Solution
Ray Majors, former member of the Yardbirds, Box of Frogs and Mott the Hoople celebrates over fifty years in the music business with the release of his latest album, The 7% Solution.
Majors'voice has changed significantly, since he is singing after losing three thirds of his tongue to stage 3 throat cancer. However, it sounds gritty, powerful and determined. His survival of the battle with throat cancer has only strengthened his determination to continue creating music. His guitar playing has lost none of its characteristic power. The blues is a good friend to Majors, and it comforted him during the chemotherapy and the many ups and downs of the battle. Majors gently and at times grittily rocks the walls with tracks like the powerful opener and proclamation, "I'm Alive!"
Every track on the album is full of true grit and determination and should be recognized for its authenticity and extraordinary effort. This album is a celebration of making it through and getting back to what you love in life despite the odds. Major's music on this album is a testament to the man and his willingness to overcome insurmountable obstacles to fulfill a dream, to capture the troubled times facing off against one of man's most difficult diseases.
Roy Majors new wife Sandy Dillion accompanies Roy throughout this album as she did throughout his fight with cancer. She adds keyboards to the title song and other tracks to help add to the mood and feeling emanating from the guitar work. It will take you back to some of the best memories you may have from '60s/70s rock. In fact, Majors plays some bars from a famous Hendrix song within the melody of "In the Now".
Every track bears out witness to the strength and determination and should be appreciated for Majors' amazing Samson-like effort.
